Our Approach

Our homes are built on compassion, inclusivity, and a belief in every child’s potential. Our practice is shaped by trauma‑informed approaches, the Secure Base Model, and PACE, helping children build trusting relationships, develop emotional resilience, and achieve positive outcomes.

Trauma‑Informed Practice

Many children in residential care have experienced adversity or trauma, which can affect their emotions, behaviour, relationships, and development. Our trauma‑informed approach focuses on understanding each child’s experiences and providing care that supports recovery, reduces re‑traumatisation, and promotes long‑term wellbeing.

We work closely with families and professionals to understand each child’s history, strengths, and needs. Our practice is supported by consultation from Clinical Psychologist Dr Satbinder Kaur Bhogal, who brings extensive experience in residential and aftercare services.

All team members complete Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) training, covering:

  • The impact of trauma on development
  • Brain development and stress responses
  • Building resilience and protective factors
  • Providing support through a trauma‑informed lens

This approach is reinforced through reflective practice, team meetings, supervision, and care planning.

PACE – Therapeutic Parenting

Our trauma‑informed work is underpinned by the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy), which supports children who have experienced trauma, loss, or disrupted attachments. PACE helps staff build trusting relationships and provide consistent, nurturing support.

Staff use PACE by:

  • Playfulness: using warmth and positive interactions to reduce anxiety and build connection.
  • Acceptance: showing unconditional positive regard and helping children express emotions safely.
  • Curiosity: seeking to understand the meaning behind behaviour as a form of communication.
  • Empathy: validating feelings and helping children feel understood and emotionally supported.

Embedding PACE throughout daily practice helps create a nurturing, predictable environment where children feel valued, develop resilience, and work towards positive outcomes.

We use evidence‑based, trauma‑informed practice to help children feel connected, understood, and empowered. Our work is guided by the Secure Base Model, PACE, and personalised care planning that supports each child’s communication style, identity, and emotional needs.
